Captain is an incredibly smart, cuddly and loyal companion, who functions best and thrives in a quiet home. This handsome boy currently stays indoors most of the day and sleeps inside too, but he adores being outside, lounging in the sun. Captain is very responsive; he takes quickly to commands (but must be reinforced consistently). He is loyal to “his people”, but can often be fearful and cautious of humans he isn't well-acquainted with, especially in crowded, boisterous situations. Captain is an enjoyable companion while camping and on hikes. He does tremendously off leash; he'll venture ahead, but will quickly return to your side when instructed to do so. Captain loves to cuddle and would prefer to lay ON you while watching TV or lying in bed!  He is enthusiastic about car rides, new adventures, and absolutely LOVES walks.  He performs well on a leash, but tends to pull and tug a bit with excitement. Captain has always gotten along very well with his fur-sister, Stella. They love to romp and roll around together. Captain has not been around cats or other small animals, so his ability to interact with them is not known.

Captain is housetrained, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on monthly prevention. He knows 'sit', 'stay', 'come', 'down', 'leave it', 'high five', and 'shake'. He has a bobtail and both of his eyes are part blue, part brown.

Captain barks when people approach his home, ring the doorbell, etc. but is easily quieted.  He responds appropriately to a vibrating bark collar in situations where being quiet is especially important. Captain does not like swift and sudden movement and in a rather active home--with many visitors coming and going--he will herd/nip (but has never nipped hard enough to cause broken skin). Captain does not dig, chew, scratch, lack house training, etc. Because of his fear of swift and sudden movements and tendancy to be protective of “his people” we recommend that Captain is NOT SUITABLE FOR A HOME WITH SMALL CHILDREN.
