Joey was rescued at three months old, and has become a loving family dog.

He’s a little on the quiet side, although very enthusiastic about getting in the car and going for rides or runs. Joey is not a “gotta go,” kind of dog. Although he loves carrying sticks around in his mouth, he’s not the world’s best fetcher. He can do it, but just doesn’t get why he needs to. He loves being in and around water, but doesn’t really like to swim. Birds fascinate him. Horses do not, and he will lunge at them. When we’re out in the open, he will chase deer, antelope and rabbits.

Joey is a sensitive guy, and senses moods even more than most dogs. He would appreciate being in an active, but quiet home. He responds very well to commands. Just ask him what you want and he will try very hard to accommodate. Joey is not a high maintenance dog. All he asks is that he live in a peaceful, active home where there’s a couple of cookies a day and lots and lots of hugs.

Joey is protective of “his” property and people. He will bark and sound fierce at strangers, but when introduced to people, will be friendly and ask for pets.  Sometimes Joey will give little nips, but has never bitten anyone.  If you’re a kind and patient person, Joey will do well. He loves to wake you up in the morning, and will give lots of kisses when asked.  He loves to be thrown snowballs, and will eat them enthusiastically. He will walk well on a leash.  Actually, anything that gets him outside is good with him. Sometimes he will lie outside for hours on end, just enjoying being there.

Joey and his (step) sister, Katie, (also listed here), were adopted about the same time and have become very close. In a perfect world it would be a blessing and a dream if someone would adopt them both.
